DESCRIPTION:The Crooked River Lighthouse will be hosting a Full Moon Lighthouse Climb on Friday\, January 6\, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 pm in Carrabelle\, FL. Visitors can enjoy this opportunity to see the gorgeous natural surroundings of the St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach under the glow of the rising Wolf Moon. If the night skies are clear enough\, guest might be able to spot Dog Island. \nThere will also be fun entertainment with karaoke night. Guests are invited to come share their vocal skills and win fun awards. There will be prizes for best single act\, duo act and group act. In addition\, there will also be an extraordinary one night performance by a very unique Kiss tribute karaoke group solely made up for this special evening and complete with outfits! This is a not-to-be-missed spectacle. \nWhile at Carrabelle’s lighthouse\, guests can enjoy a visit inside the Keeper’s House Museum and browse some unique nautical gifts and souvenirs in the gift shop. Visitors can also enjoy the glowing fire pit (weather permitting). Bring a chair and enjoy the evening.  \nThe climb to the top of the tallest Forgotten Coast lighthouse rewards bold climbers with breathtaking views of the bay. Cost is $10 for adults and $3 for kids. All climbers must be at least 44 inches tall. Advance reservations are required for those who wish to climb the lighthouse tower during this event by calling the Lighthouse gift shop.  \nA limited number of climbers (max of 7) are allowed at one time. There will be a time limit for viewing from the top. Guests who would like a more leisurely climbing experience are welcome to enjoy one of the daytime climbs available every Wednesday through Sunday. SUMMARY:Sunset and Full Moon Climb at St. George Island Lighthouse
DESCRIPTION:The January Sunset and Full Moon Climb at the Cape St. George Lighthouse on St. George Island will be held on Friday\, January 6\, 2023.  Visitors can enjoy this opportunity to view St. George Island\, the Gulf of Mexico\, and Apalachicola Bay under the evening sky. \nThe Sunset and Full Moon Climb will begin at 5:30 p.m. and run until 7:30 p.m.  Fifteen-minute time slots will be allotted for each group on a first-come\, first-served basis. No advanced reservations will be taken.  You will purchase your tickets in the gift shop and then sign up for your 15-minute time slot with the lighthouse keeper. Up to 12 persons are allowed in each 15-minute time slot. The gift shop will open at 5:00 pm to begin selling tickets. \nThe cost is $10.00 per climber for the general public and $7.00 for members of the St. George Lighthouse Association. Cash or credit card payments are accepted. All climbers must be at least 40 inches tall to climb the tower and children must be age 13 and over to access the outside catwalk.  For more information\, please contact the Lighthouse Gift Shop at 850-927-7745. \nThe sun will set at 5:54 p.m. and the “Wolf” moon will rise at 5:40 p.m. on January 6th. The January full moon is called the Wolf moon because wolves often hunt at night and the howling of wolves could be heard outside Indian villages.  As such\, their howling became associated with nightfall and particularly\, the moon amid the cold and deep snows of midwinter. Thus\, the name for January’s full moon. Full Moon names are attributable to native American tribes\, most notably the Algonquin\, who named the moons to mark the changing seasons. \nThe Cape St. George Light is located in St. George Lighthouse Park at the center of St. George Island\, where Island Drive (the road off the bridge) ends at Gulf Beach Drive.  Parking is available in lots on either side of the park. \nView more events at FloridasForgottenCoast.com

DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle is presenting a special exhibit for the month of January on the War Crime Trials of the German military and government members\, of which the Nuremberg Trials are the most well-known. This exhibit will open Tuesday\, January 3\, 2023\, and will be on display at the museum until Saturday\, January 28.  The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm and there is no charge for admission. \nFrom November 1945 to October 1946 high ranking members of the German military and government were prosecuted for war crimes and crimes committed against humanity stemming from their actions before and during WWII. During the month of January\, the Camp Gordon Johnston Museum will present an exhibit about the trials\, covering some of the more notorious defendants such as Hess\, Göring\, Döring\, Jodl\, and Keitel; the prosecutors\, the charges\, and the verdicts. DESCRIPTION:The Carrabelle Chamber of Commerce would like to invite residents and visitors to the 2022 Holiday on the Harbor Street Festival and Boat Parade of Lights on Saturday\, December 10 from 1 – 8 pm in beautiful downtown Carrabelle\, FL. This street festival will feature terrific children’s activities\, arts and crafts\, delicious food and drink\, live entertainment\, a lighted boat parade and a fireworks finale. This free\, family-friendly festival has become a favorite Christmas tradition for the entire Forgotten Coast community and beyond! \nThe children’s activities will include several exciting new ones and of course some family favorites. New this year there will be a Children’s Petting Zoo featuring sheep\, goats\, bunnies\, a mini cow\, a mini horse\, a mini donkey and a pig! Also this year in addition to the wonderful Sheriff’s Department bouncy house\, there will also be a huge inflatable slide. Returning are some of the Holiday on the Harbor traditions like visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus\, mini-train rides\, face painting and a book giveaway by Bring Me a Book Franklin. \nThis event will also include yummy holiday treats\, a variety of delicious food and wonderful art\, crafts and goods for holiday gifts as well as a craft beer garden. There will be live music by Cody Barber and by the band\, Cheap Sunglasses\, as well as a demonstration from the Franklin ROTC students\, a festive dance performance\, and then a street dance with a DJ. The majority of the festivities will take place along the Carrabelle harbor along Marine Street. \nWhile in Carrabelle\, visitors are invited to complete their holiday shopping with unique and one of kind items at Carrabelle’s wonderful stores\, gift shops and art galleries conveniently located within walking distance of the festival. Then guests can enjoy delicious fresh seafood and tasty home-style cooking at one of several cafes\, restaurants or festival food vendors. \nAfter enjoying hours of food\, festivities\, and fun\, festival-goers are invited to watch the magical Christmas parade of boats decked out in lights\, décor\, music and even some holiday outfits! Find a spot along the water and enjoy this parade with double the lights as the Carrabelle harbor beautifully reflects back the glow of the lighted boat decorations. See this special nautical tradition from an unbeatable viewing point by entering your own decorated boat for free! \nThe parade starts at around 6:15 pm and proceeds around the Carrabelle harbor between the Marine Street Fishing Pavilion and the Tillie Miller Bridge on US 98 so it can be enjoyed from many viewing spots along the route.
