SUMMARY:Crooked River Lighthouse Full Moon Climb with Blues and BBQ
DESCRIPTION:The Crooked River Lighthouse will be hosting a special Blues & BBQ Full Moon Lighthouse event on Sunday\, December 19\, 2021\, from 5-8 pm in Carrabelle\, FL. This special outdoor event will feature live Blues music\, a glowing fire pit\, and delicious BBQ.  Visitors can enjoy this opportunity to see the gorgeous natural surroundings of the St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach under the evening sky. Live music will be provided by the Musical duo\, “Blues Meets Girl”. Bring a chair and enjoy the evening. The museum and gift shop will be open for browsing and shopping. Admission for this special Full Moon event is $10 per person. (Climbs are not included in this price.) \nBlues Meets Girl is a collaboration of British Blues veteran Mr. Downchild and Texas-born singer/songwriter Kasimira. Together they weave their influences and experiences creating Down Home\, Smokin’ Sexy Blues.  Plus a delicious BBQ vendor will be on hand with pulled pork sandwiches\, baked beans\, and coleslaw. \nFor this month’s special event\, admission must be purchased in advance. Admission cost is $10 per person and includes live music\, fire pit\, delicious BBQ\, and museum access. Admission can be paid online at https://www.crookedriverlighthouse.com/category/programs-events/ or in the Crooked River Lighthouse Gift Shop. \nIn addition\, some guests may also choose to enjoy evening tower climbs. The climb to the top of the tallest lighthouse on the Forgotten Coast rewards climbers with breathtaking views of the bay. Climbers must be 44” tall. A climb timeslot reservation is required and can be made by calling 850-697-2732. Climbers will pay the climbing fee (adult $5\, child $3) in the gift shop during the event. \nA limited number of climbers (max of 7) are allowed at one time. There will be a time limit for viewing from the top.  Guests who would like a more leisurely climbing experience are welcome to enjoy one of the daytime climbs available every Wednesday through Sunday. DESCRIPTION:The December Sunset and Full Moon Climb at the Cape St. George Lighthouse on St. George Island will be held on Saturday\, December 18\, 2021. Visitors can enjoy this opportunity to view St. George Island\, the Gulf of Mexico\, and the Apalachicola bay under the evening sky. \nThe Sunset and Full Moon Climb will begin at 5:30 p.m. and run until 7:30 p.m. Fifteen-minute time slots will be allotted for each group on a first-come\, first-served basis. No advanced reservations will be taken. You will purchase your tickets in the gift shop and then sign up for your 15-minute time slot with the lighthouse keeper. Up to 12 persons are allowed in each 15-minute time slot. The gift shop will be open at 5:00 pm to begin selling tickets. \nCost is $10.00 per climber for the general public and $7.00 for members of the St. George Lighthouse Association. Cash or credit card payments accepted. All climbers must be at least 40 inches tall to climb the tower and children must be age 13 and over to access the outside catwalk. For more information\, please contact the Lighthouse Gift Shop at 850-927-7745. \nThe sun will set at 5:43 p.m. and the “Cold” moon will rise at 5:21 p.m. on December 18th. The December full moon is called the Cold Moon for obvious reasons: winter is about to arrive and temperatures are dropping. It’s getting cold! Full Moon names are attributable to Native American tribes\, most notably the Algonquin\, who named the moons to mark the changing seasons. \nThe Cape St. George Light is located in St. George Lighthouse Park at the center of St. George Island\, where Island Drive (the road off the bridge) ends at Gulf Beach Drive. Vendors (new and returning) are welcome to bring their much-loved treasures to the market to find them a new home. The market welcomes an assortment of products such as home décor\, furniture\, vintage jewelry\, music\, antiques\, tools\, ceramics and kitchenware\, books\, art\, toys\, and gently used clothing. We apologize for any inconvenience.*\n\nThe St. Marks Lighthouse Quarters will be open to the public for tours from 10 am to 4 pm on the first consecutive Friday and Saturday of each month.\n\nPrice:\n$2 per person (age 12 and older)\n$5 refuge entrance fee*\n\nTickets are sold at the lighthouse (cash or check only) on the day of the event for specific time slots. Only 15 tickets available per day. Ticket sales stop at 3:30 pm.\n\n*Federal passes must be shown or displayed in the vehicle for entrance to the refuge.\n\nThe St. Marks Lighthouse Keeper’s Quarters has major historical significance and recently underwent a costly renovation. We ask our visitors to please follow these guidelines while taking the tour:\n– Leave pets outside\n– No food or drink while on the tour\n– No wet shoes\, bare feet\, or wet clothing\n– Refrain from handling or removing any display items\n– Climbing the tower is prohibited\n\n\nThe St. Marks Lighthouse tours are run by trained volunteer interpreters. DESCRIPTION:The Carrabelle History Museum is presenting a fascinating history program entitled\, “Right On Time: Buck O’Neil and Black Baseball”. This program features author\, Wes Singletary and baseball aficionado\, Josh Weaver and will be held Saturday\, November 20\, 2021\, from 10 am – 12 pm in the upstairs room at C-Quarters Marina\, 501 St. James Ave (Hwy 98)\, Carrabelle\, FL. Due to COVID precautions\, seating will be limited. There is no charge for this event but reservations are required. \nJohn Jordan “Buck” O’Neil was born in Carrabelle\, FL on November 13\, 1911. He became a famous first baseman and manager for the Kansas City Monarchs\, a Negro Leagues team. In 1956 he joined the Chicago Cubs as one of the first African-American scouts in Major League Baseball. Then the first African-American coach in the Major Leagues in 1962. Buck also founded the Negro League Baseball Museum in Kansas City\, MO\, and was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2006. \nThe History Speaker Series programs are popular and due to COVID precautions\, seating will be limited to 50 attendees. Reservations are required by emailing carrabellehistorymuseum@gmail.com. Masks are required. Seats will be spaced to allow for social distancing. Attendees are asked to follow all health guidelines including social distancing and sanitizing hands frequently. There is no fee for this program. Donations are gladly accepted to defray costs.
