SUMMARY:Carrabelle History Museum: Special Exhibit on “A Lost Town: Harbeson City”
DESCRIPTION:The Carrabelle History Museum is excited to announce a new special exhibit on “A Lost Town: Harbeson City”. This exhibit will be on display from Wednesday\, March 2 through Thursday\, March 31. There is no charge for admission but donations are gladly accepted. The museum and exhibit are open Wednesdays 12-5 pm\, Thursdays thru Saturdays 10 am – 5 pm and Sundays 12 – 5 pm. \nHarbeson City was a bustling\, self-contained community that existed in Franklin County just a few miles north of Carrabelle. It was created to support the large sawmill located there. The Harbeson City sawmill was the first electrified sawmill in the southeast. Harbeson City had its own school thru 6th grade\, a grocery store\, and even a hotel. After the sawmill closed down\, Harbeson City would likely have become another ghost town\, still there but forgotten. However during WWII\, what remained of the town was all but bombed and shelled into non-existence. All that remains now of Harbeson City are a few fascinating artifacts and memories. \nThe exhibit will feature photos and artifacts from Harbeson City and those related to the timber industry of that time. The artifacts include a large-link\, hand-wrought logging chain\, Harbeson bricks\, fascinating photos of the mill\, town\, and the workers plus a wonderful example of a cat-faced piece of timber. Come to the museum to learn about this lost and forgotten town in Franklin County. \nCarrabelle History Museum is located\, one block from Carrabelle Harbor\, at 106 SE Avenue B\, Carrabelle\, FL. Funding in part by the Franklin County Tourist Development Council. For more information\, contact 850-697-2141 or go to www.carrabellehistorymuseum.org. \nView more events at FloridasForgottenCoast.com

SUMMARY:Dixie Theatre: Comedian David Earl
DESCRIPTION:Earl David Reed is a trendsetter in the comedy and radio world. Within his 15 years of stand-up comedy\, Earl has performed at over 100 comedy clubs and colleges and is a favorite in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Along with his 10 years of morning broadcasting experience and numerous television appearances\, his improvisational style has become a favorite of radio and stage audiences all around. His genius is the way he interacts with the crowd. He has a way of knowing just who to pick on to get the biggest laugh\, and the audience loves it! The Las Vegas Review-Journal called him “…an urban Don Rickles!” And Don Rickles himself commented “This guy works the room like a Las Vegas Showgirl… funny without being offensive.” His TV credits include The Tonight Show with Jay Leno\, HBO\, Showtime\, Fox’s Comic Strip Live\, A&E’s Comedy on the Road\, and NBC’s Friday Night Videos. Earl can also be seen on DVD as one of Bill Engvall’s All-Stars of Country Comedy comedians with Larry the Cable Guy and Jeff Foxworthy. We’re thrilled to have Earl return to grace the Dixie stage with his comedy for the 5th time\,don’t miss it! \nView more events at FloridasForgottenCoast.com

SUMMARY:Sunset and Full Moon Climb at Cape St. George Lighthouse
DESCRIPTION:Sunset and Full Moon Climb at Cape St. George Lighthouse \nThe February Sunset and Full Moon Climb at the Cape St. George Lighthouse on St. George Island will be held on Wednesday\, February 16\, 2022. Visitors can enjoy this opportunity to view St. George Island\, the Gulf of Mexico\, and the Apalachicola Bay under the evening sky. \nThe Sunset and Full Moon Climb will begin at 6:00 p.m. and run until 8:00 p.m. Fifteen-minute time slots will be allotted for each group on a first-come\, first-served basis. No advanced reservations will be taken. You will purchase your tickets in the gift shop and then sign up for your 15-minute time slot with the lighthouse keeper. Up to 12 persons are allowed in each 15-minute time slot. The gift shop will open at 5:30 pm to begin selling tickets. \nCost is $10.00 per climber for the general public and $7.00 for members of the St. George Lighthouse Association. Cash or credit card payments accepted. All climbers must be at least 40 inches tall to climb the tower and children must be age 13 and over to access the outside catwalk. For more information\, please contact the Lighthouse Gift Shop at 850-927-7745. \nThe sun will set at 6:29 p.m. and the “Snow” or “Trapper’s” moon will rise at 6:37 p.m. on February 16. The February full moon is called the Snow Moon because while January is traditionally the coldest month of the year in the northern hemisphere\, the heaviest snow usually falls a month later\, in February. It’s only natural then that the name for February’s full moon among Native American tribes of the north and east was the Full Snow Moon. To the early American colonists\, the optimal time for trapping beaver\, fox and mink was the dead of winter when these animals’ coats were at their fullest. So to them\, February’s moon was known as the Trapper’s Moon. \nThe Cape St. George Light is located in St. George Lighthouse Park at the center of St. George Island\, where Island Drive (the road off the bridge) ends at Gulf Beach Drive. Parking is available in lots at either side of the park. \nView more events at FloridasForgottenCoast.com

It boasts a beautiful pool that overlooks the turquoise Gulf of Mexico and a light and airy coastal interior that will soothe your soul. With six bedrooms and six and a half bathrooms and substantial decks overlooking the sand and sea\, there is plenty of space for everyone to relax and unwind. \n“The Carbo House” is a private family home in the Plantation with seven bedrooms\, eight baths\, two half baths\, and a bunk room with an attached playroom for the little ones. Cory has graciously donated an original painting to be raffled off to benefit the St. George Lighthouse Association. Additionally\, there will be some old lighthouse tower windows that have been painted by several local artists that will be raffled off during the tour. \nBecause of space limitations\, the Friday night kickoff event usually held at the island firehouse will be replaced with a “Thank You” reception in Lighthouse Park for tourgoers and volunteers on Saturday at the conclusion of the tour. The reception will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and light refreshments will be served. \nThe St. George Island Tour of Homes is sponsored by the St. George Lighthouse Association\, a non-profit Florida corporation that preserves\, maintains\, and promotes the lighthouse.
