Apalachicola Bay Estuary Class

March 27 @ 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm

  • This event has passed.

Estuaries are incredibly productive and valuable ecosystems, especially in the Apalachicola Bay area where the seafood industry factors in so heavily in our local economy. Come join us at the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve on an overview and tour of the estuary that we have come to depend on, as well as some of the future challenges it may face.

Participants will learn about the flora and fauna that inhabit this unique ecosystem as well as how the Gulf of Mexico’s salt water combines with the Apalachicola River’s fresh water to create intricate webs of productivity. The class combines a classroom overview followed by a chance to see these habitats up close aboard the Reserve’s research vessel, the R/V Henry Lee.

The course is free to attend but boat space is limited so participants will need to reserve a spot through the reserve’s eventbrite page.
